Uses of Contiflo OD-F Tab

Finasteride is used in the treatment of benign prostatic hypertrophy (a chronic condition in which Prostate size increases in men ) . In lower doses Finasteride may also be indicated for growth of hair. Tamsulosin relaxes the muscles of urinary bladder neck, thus helps in improved urination .

Side Effects of Contiflo OD-F Tab

Gynaecomastia, decreased libido, impotence, reduction in the volume of ejaculate, testicular pain. Hypersensitivity reactions e.g. swelling of lips and face, urticaria, rashes.

Contraindications

Children, exposure of pregnant women to finasteride either via direct contact with crushed tab or through semen of male sexual partners who are taking finasteride; pregnancy, lactation.

Mechanism of Action

Finasteride is a competitive inhibitor of the enzyme 5-α reductase which converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), thus resulting in decreased serum levels of DHT. Absorption: Absorbed from the GI tract (oral); peak plasma concentrations after 1-2 hr. Distribution: Protein-binding: 90%. Metabolism: Hepatic. Excretion: Urine and faeces (as metabolites); <60 yr: 6 hr; >70 yr: 8 hr (elimination half-life).

Special Precautions

Undiagnosed prostate cancer, liver dysfunction, obstructive uropathy.

How to Use

Take orally with food and water, as directed by your physician.

Keep in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and moisture.

Safety Concerns

• Alcohol: Avoid during treatment.
• Breastfeeding: Not recommended.
• Pregnancy: Contraindicated.
• Liver/Kidney: Use with caution.
