Uses of Decitex 50 mg Injection

Decitabine is an anti-cancer drug. It is used for the treatment of blood cancer and myelodysplastic syndrome.

Side Effects of Decitex 50 mg Injection

Some of the common side effects of decitabine are :
1. Nausea Vomiting & Diarrhea
2. Headache , bodyache & muscular pain
3.Anaemia and Decreased white blood cell count (WBCs) 4.Low blood platelets
5. Pneumonia & respiratory tract infections

Drug Interactions

Decitabine should be used with caution in patients taking other medications that can affect bone marrow function or suppress the immune system, as these may increase the risk of side effects. It is important to discuss all medications, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements, with your healthcare provider before starting decitabine.

Contraindications

Not safe in pregnancy and lactating mothers so decitabine should be avoided in these patients.

Mechanism of Action

It is a nucleoside analog that works by inhibiting DNA methyltransferase, an enzyme involved in DNA methylation. DNA methylation is a process that can regulate gene expression, and aberrant DNA methylation is associated with cancer, including MDS. By inhibiting DNA methyltransferase, decitabine can help restore normal patterns of DNA methylation, which may help to re-express genes that have been silenced in cancer cells. This can lead to the differentiation and death of cancer cells.

Special Precautions

  • Myelosuppression: Decitabine can cause myelosuppression (decreased bone marrow function), leading to low blood cell counts. Monitor blood counts regularly during treatment.
  • Embryo-Fetal Toxicity: Decitabine can cause fetal harm if used during pregnancy. It is advised to use effective contraception during treatment and for at least 6 months after the last dose.
  • Nursing Mothers: Decitabine is excreted in human milk. Breastfeeding should be avoided during treatment and for at least 2 weeks after the last dose.

It's important to discuss these precautions and contraindications with your healthcare provider before starting decitabine therapy.

How to Use

Take orally with food and water, as directed by your physician.

How to Store

Keep in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and moisture.

Safety Concerns

  • Alcohol: Avoid during treatment.
  • Breastfeeding: Not recommended.
