Cefprozil is a cephalosporin antibiotic and is used in the treatment of various bacterial infections.

Side Effects of Refzil-O 250mg Tab 10s

Nausea; vomiting; diarrhoea; hypersensitivity reactions; nephrotoxicity; convulsions; CNS toxicity; hepatic dysfunction; haematologic disorders; pain at Inj site (IM); thrombophloebitis (IV infusion); superinfection with prolonged use. Potentially Fatal: Pseudomembranous colitis.

Drug Interactions

Renal excretion delayed by probenecid. Decreases contraceptive effect of oestrogen-containing oral contraceptives.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity.

Mechanism of Action

Cefprozil inhibits cell wall synthesis and has activity against a broad range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Absorption: Well absorbed from the GI tract. Bioavailability: 90-95%. Distribution: 35-45% bound to plasma proteins. Widely distributed in the body tissues. Excretion: Plasma half-life: 1-1.4 hr; prolonged in renal impairment. About 60% excreted unchanged in the urine.

Special Precautions

Hypersensitivity to penicillins; renal impairment; porphyria. Monitor renal and haematologic status. Pregnancy, lactation.

Take orally with food and water, as directed by your physician.

Keep in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and moisture.
