Uses of Targit-AM Tab 15s

Telmisartan and amlodipine is a combination medication used to treat high blood pressure.

Side Effects of Targit-AM Tab 15s

The most common side effects of telmisartan and amlodipine are:

1. Headache
2. Dizziness
3. Fatigue
4. Flushing
5. Nausea
6. Diarrhea

Other side effects that may occur include:

1. Swelling of the hands or feet
2. Fast or pounding heartbeat
3. Back pain
4. Muscle cramps
5. Dry mouth
6. Constipation
7. Trouble sleeping
8. Rash
9. Hives

Drug Interactions

Concurrent use increases digoxin concentration; increases risk of lithium toxicity; increases risk of hyperkalaemia with potassium sparing diuretics, heparin.

Contraindications

Severe hepatic impairment, biliary obstructive disorders. Pregnancy. Lactation.

Mechanism of Action

Telmisartan and amlodipine works by two different mechanisms to lower blood pressure:

• 1. Telmisartan: Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It works by blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor. Angiotensin II is a hormone that narrows blood vessels, which raises blood pressure. By blocking the AT1 receptor, telmisartan relaxes blood vessels and lowers blood pressure.
  2. Amlodipine: Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker (CCB). It works by blocking the movement of calcium into the cells of the heart and blood vessels. This prevents the heart from beating too hard and the blood vessels from constricting, which lowers blood pressure.

Special Precautions

Hepatic insufficiency, biliary obstruction, renal impairment, renaly artery stenosis. Correct volume depletion before initiating treatment. Monitor serum potassium levels regularly, especially in elderly and renally-impaired patients.

How to Use

Take orally with food and water, as directed by your physician.

Keep in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and moisture.

• Alcohol: Avoid during treatment.
• Breastfeeding: Not recommended.
