Mechanism of Action

Pantoprazole and domperidone are two medications that are often used together to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other conditions that involve excess stomach acid.

  1. Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that works by blocking the production of stomach acid. It does this by binding to the proton pump, which is an enzyme that is responsible for the final step in acid production.
  2. Domperidone is a dopamine receptor antagonist that works by increasing the movement of food through the stomach and intestines. It does this by blocking the effects of dopamine, a neurotransmitter that can slow down stomach and intestinal motility.
