Side Effects of Cancidas 50 mg Injection

Fever, nausea; vomiting; flushing; venous complications around the infusion site; rash; dyspnoea, dystonia, facial swelling, pruritus, stridor. Potentially Fatal: Adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), anaphylaxis, pulmonary oedema.

Drug Interactions

Concomitant use with ciclosporin may result in elevation of hepatic enzymes. Increased caspofungin clearance when used with efavirenz, nelfinavir, nevirapine, phenytoin, rifampicin, dexamethasone or carbamazepine. Concurrent usage may lead to decreased tacrolimus concentration.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity.

Mechanism of Action

Caspofungin inhibits the synthesis of β-(1,3)-D-glucan, an essential component of the cell wall of susceptible Aspergillus and Candida species. β-(1,3)-D-glucan is not present in mammalian cells. Distribution: Highly bound to plasma protein. Metabolism: Slow metabolism of caspofungin by hydrolysis and N-acetylation. Excretion: Excreted in faeces and urine.

Special Precautions

Hepatic impairment. Pregnancy, lactation and children < 18 yr.

How to Use

Take orally with food and water, as directed by your physician.

How to Store

Keep in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and moisture.

Safety Concerns

• Alcohol: Avoid during treatment.
• Breastfeeding: Not recommended.
• Pregnancy: Contraindicated.
• Liver/Kidney: Use with caution.
