Uses of Celonib 400mg Tablet 10s

Imatinib is used to treat certain types of cancer like

• Acute lymphoblastic leukemia,
• Chronic myeloid leukemia, (CML)
• Gastrointestinal stromal tumors, and
• Myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative diseases.

Side Effects of Celonib 400mg Tablet 10s

Common side effects of IMATINIB:

1. Increased risk of getting an infection
2. Stomach ache, Indigestion, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea,
3. Headache,dizziness ,blurred vision
4. Muscle cramps, Muscle pain and joint pain
5. Skin rash
6. Weight Gain
7. Feeling tired and weakness

Some of the serious Side effects of Imatinib include :

1. Swelling around the eyes,
2. Shortness of breath,
3. Fast heartbeat,
4. Black/bloody stools,
5. Vomit that looks like coffee grounds,

In case of serious side effects consult your doctor immediately.

Contraindications

The only known contraindication to imatinib is hypersensitivity to imatinib.Cautions include:

• Hepatic impairment
• Risk of severe CHF or left ventricular dysfunction, especially in patients with comorbidities
• Pregnancy, risk of embryo-fetal toxicity
• Risk of fluid retention
• Risk of growth stunting in children or adolescents

Mechanism of Action

Imatinib is a specific inhibitor of a number of tyrosine kinase enzymes IN BCR . It prevents a BCR-ABL protein from exerting its role in the oncogenic pathway in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML).

Special Precautions

1. Before using Imatinib,inform your doctor or pharmacist your medical history if you have bleeding problems, heart problems (like heart failure), kidney disease, liver disease, removal of thyroid gland.
2. This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy or blur your vision. So avoid drinking alcohol. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs alertness or clear vision until you can do it safely.
3. Imatinib may increase the risk of getting infections so avoid coming in contact with people who have chickenpox, flu, measles or other communicable diseases.
