Uses of Firmagon 120mg Injection

Degarelix injection is used in the treatment of advanced prostate cancer. This medicine is given as subcutaneous (injected under the skin) injection by a trained medico professional like doctor or nurse. Do not self inject this medicine .

Side Effects of Firmagon 120mg Injection

Some of the common side effects of degarelix include :

1. Dizziness and headache
2. Gynecomastia (enlargement of breasts in males)
3. Injection site reactions like itching, rashes , pain, swelling or erythema (redness of skin)
4. Muscular pain
5. Sexual dysfunction or decrease in sexual desire
6. Insomnia (loss of sleep)
7. Sweats
8. Weight gain
9. Fever and flu-like symptoms
10. Erectile dysfunction
11. Testicular atrophy
12. Anemia

Drug Interactions

Degarelix may interact with other medicines like amiodarone, dofetilide, pimozide, procainamide, quinidine, sotalol, macrolide antibiotics (such as erythromycin) etc.

Contraindications

Degarelix should not be used in pregnancy , heart failure , chronic liver problems , and in cases of low magnesium or potassium in the blood .

Mechanism of Action

Degarelix suppresses the amount of testosterone release in the body . Testosterone hormone is required for growth of prostate cells . Thereby, once the testosterone production is halted, degarelix helps in the treatment of prostate cancer .

How to Use

Take orally with food and water, as directed by your physician.

Keep in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and moisture.
