Uses of Fosphoneg 4 gm Injection

Fosfomycin tromethamine, a synthetic, broad spectrum, bactericidal antibiotic. It is available as a single-dose sachet and injection. Fosfomycin has broad antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens, with useful activity against E. faecalis, E. coli, and various Gram-negatives like Citrobacter and Proteus.
Fosfomycin is used in the treatment of urinary tract infections, where it is usually administered as a single oral mega dose. Its use in combination with tobramycin to treat lung infections in patients with cystic fibrosis was also explored.

Side Effects of Fosphoneg 4 gm Injection

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Less serious side effects of Fosfomycin may be more likely to occur, such as:

• headache & dizziness
• diarrhea, nausea, stomach pain or upset
• stuffy nose, sore throate
• weakness
• vaginal itching or discharge
• menstrual paine
• back pain

Drug Interactions

Fosfomycin may interact with other medicines like
1. Live Vaccines,
2. Balsalazide and
3. Metoclopramide.

Contraindications

Fosfomycin should not be used in patients suffering form reduced kidney function or having lostridium difficile infection .
OR allergic to Fosfomycin

Mechanism of Action

Fosfomycin is bactericidal and stops bacterial cell wall formation by inactivating the enzyme UDP-N-acetylglucosamine-3-enolpyruvyltransferase, also known as MurA.

Special Precautions

Take precautions while taking Fosfomycin sachets (Fosfomycin 3gn sachet), if you are allergic to any of the ingredients of Fosfomycin sachet.

How to Use

Take orally with food and water, as directed by your physician.

How to Store

Keep in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and moisture.

Safety Concerns

• Alcohol: Avoid during treatment.
• Breastfeeding: Not recommended.
• Pregnancy: Contraindicated.
• Liver/Kidney: Use with caution.
