Uses of Glidapaflozin M 5/500 Tablet 10s

Dapagliflozin and metformin is a combination medication used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). It works by increasing the amount of sugar that your body removes through urine. Metformin works by lowering the amount of sugar your liver makes, slowing down how your body absorbs sugar from food, and helping your body use sugar more effectively.

Dapagliflozin and metformin is used together with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is also used to lower the risk of hospitalization for heart failure in adults with type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease or multiple cardiovascular risk factors.

Side Effects of Glidapaflozin M 5/500 Tablet 10s

Dapagliflozin and metformin are generally well-tolerated. The most common side effects are urinary tract infections, yeast infections, and increased thirst. Serious side effects are rare, but can include ketoacidosis (a buildup of acids in the blood), dehydration, and low blood sugar.

Contraindications

Dapagliflozin and metformin is not for everyone. Do not take it if you are allergic to dapagliflozin, metformin, or any of the other ingredients in the medication. You should also not take it if you have:

  • Kidney disease
  • Liver disease
  • Heart failure
  • A history of ketoacidosis
  • A history of low blood sugar
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding

Mechanism of Action

Dapagliflozin and metformin are two different types of diabetes medications that work in different ways to lower blood sugar levels.

Dapagliflozin is a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. SGLT2 is a protein that helps the kidneys reabsorb glucose from the urine. By blocking SGLT2, dapagliflozin increases the amount of glucose that is excreted in the urine. This helps to lower blood sugar levels.

Metformin is a biguanide. Biguanides work by increasing the body's sensitivity to insulin, a hormone that helps the body use glucose for energy. Metformin also helps to reduce the amount of glucose that the liver produces.

When dapagliflozin and metformin are taken together, they work synergistically to lower blood sugar levels. This can help to improve blood sugar control and reduce the risk of complications of diabetes, such as heart disease, stroke, blindness, and kidney disease.

Here are some of the mechanism of actions of dapagliflozin and metformin:

  • Dapagliflozin:
    • Increases urinary glucose excretion by inhibiting the sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) protein in the proximal renal tubules.
    • Increases the amount of sodium that is excreted in the urine, which can lead to a modest weight loss.
    • Has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.
  • Metformin:
    • Decreases hepatic glucose production by decreasing gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis.
    • Increases peripheral glucose utilization by increasing insulin sensitivity.
    • Decreases intestinal absorption of glucose.
    • Has anti-hyperlipidemic effects.
