Uses of Pantium-20 Tab
Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that is used to treat a variety of stomach and esophagus problems. It works by decreasing the amount of acid your stomach makes.
Some of the uses of pantoprazole include:
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD): GERD is a condition in which stomach acid backs up into the esophagus, causing heartburn and other symptoms. Pantoprazole can help to relieve these symptoms and heal any damage to the esophagus.
- Erosive esophagitis: Erosive esophagitis is a condition in which the lining of the esophagus becomes inflamed and eroded due to stomach acid. Pantoprazole can help to heal this condition.
- Stomach ulcers: Stomach ulcers are sores that form in the lining of the stomach. Pantoprazole can help to heal these ulcers and prevent them from coming back.
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: Zollinger-Ellison syndrome is a rare condition in which the body produces too much stomach acid. Pantoprazole can help to reduce the amount of acid produced and relieve the symptoms of this condition.
- Indigestion: Indigestion is a feeling of fullness, discomfort, or pain in the upper abdomen. Pantoprazole can help to relieve these symptoms.

Drug Interactions
Pantoprazole can interact with a number of medications, including:
- Antibiotics: Pantoprazole can decrease the absorption of certain antibiotics, such as ampicillin, atazanavir, and clarithromycin. This can make these antibiotics less effective.
- Anticoagulants: Pantoprazole can increase the effects of warfarin and other anticoagulants. This can increase the risk of bleeding.
- Antifungals: Pantoprazole can decrease the absorption of certain antifungals, such as ketoconazole and itraconazole. This can make these antifungals less effective.
- HIV medications: Pantoprazole can decrease the absorption of certain HIV medications, such as rilpivirine and atazanavir. This can make these HIV medications less effective.
- Iron supplements: Pantoprazole can decrease the absorption of iron supplements. This can make it harder to get enough iron.
- Other medications: Pantoprazole can interact with other medications, so it is important to talk to your doctor about all of the medications you are taking.
Contraindications
Pantoprazole is contraindicated in patients with:
- A history of hypersensitivity to pantoprazole or any other benzimidazole PPI: This includes omeprazole, lansoprazole, rabeprazole, esomeprazole, or dexlansoprazole.
- Rilpivirine: Pantoprazole can reduce the serum concentration of rilpivirine, a medication used to treat HIV.
- Pregnancy: There is not enough information to know if pantoprazole is safe to use during pregnancy.
- Breast-feeding: Pantoprazole passes into breast milk. It is not known if it is safe to use during breast-feeding.
If you have any of these conditions, you should not take pantoprazole. Talk to your doctor about other medications that may be right for you.
Mechanism of Action
Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), which means that it works by blocking the production of stomach acid. This is done by binding to the proton pump, which is an enzyme that is responsible for the final step in acid production. Once pantoprazole binds to the proton pump, it irreversibly inhibits its activity, which results in a long-lasting reduction in acid production.
Special Precautions
Talk to your doctor before taking pantoprazole if you have any other medical conditions, especially liver disease, kidney disease, or a history of allergic reactions to other medications.
How to Use
Take orally with food and water, as directed by your physician.
How to Store
Keep in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and moisture.
Safety Concerns
- Alcohol: Avoid during treatment.
- Breastfeeding: Not recommended.
- Pregnancy: Contraindicated.
- Liver/Kidney: Use with caution.
