Uses of Systane Hydration Lubricant Eye Drop 10ml

This ophthalmic preparation is primarily used for:

• Management of dry eye syndrome (Keratoconjunctivitis sicca)
• Relief from eye dryness, irritation, burning, and foreign-body sensation
• Lubrication of the eyes in conditions caused by: Prolonged screen exposure , Contact lens use (as advised by a physician), Environmental factors such as dust, wind, smoke, or air conditioning
• Post-operative ocular surface lubrication (as prescribed)

Side Effects of Systane Hydration Lubricant Eye Drop 10ml

Most side effects are mild and transient. They may include:

• Temporary blurred vision immediately after application
• Mild eye irritation or discomfort
• Burning or stinging sensation
• Increased tear production
• Eye redness (rare)

Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity or allergy to sodium hyaluronate, polyethylene glycol, propylene glycol, or any component of the formulation . Not recommended in cases of active eye infection unless prescribed by a healthcare professional .

Mechanism of Action

• Sodium Hyaluronate is a viscoelastic polymer with high water-retention capacity. It forms a protective, hydrating film over the ocular surface, mimicking natural tears and promoting corneal healing.
• Polyethylene Glycol (PEG 400) acts as a demulcent, reducing friction between the eyelid and ocular surface.
• Propylene Glycol functions as a lubricant and humectant, helping retain moisture and stabilize the tear film.

Together, these components restore tear film stability, reduce evaporation, and protect the corneal epithelium from dryness-related damage.

Special Precautions

• For ophthalmic use only
• Do not touch the dropper tip to avoid contamination
• If using multiple eye medications, maintain a gap of at least 5–10 minutes between applications
• Contact lens users should remove lenses before application unless otherwise directed
