Pomalidomide is used in the treatment of multiple myeloma.

Side Effects of Bdpoma 4mg Capsule 21s

Most common side effects of pomalidomide include :

1. Fatigue and Weakness
2. Decrease in WBC cells ( White Blood Cell)
3. Anemia (a lack of red blood cells)
4. Constipation
5. Nausea
6. Diarrhea and cramps in stomach
7. Shortness of breath
8. Upper respiratory infections
9. Back pain , muscle pain
10. Fever

Drug Interactions

Pomalidomide may interact with few other medicines so consult your doctor if you are taking other medicines as well .

Contraindications

1. Pomalidomide is contraindicated in patients who develop allergic reactions (like angioedema or anaphylaxis) .
2. Pomalidomide therapy should be stopped or interrupted in patients who develop a grade 2 or 3 skin rash.

Mechanism of Action

Promalidomide is an immunomodulatory agent with antineoplastic activity. It stops the proliferation and induces apoptosis of various tumour cells. In addition to this promalidomide improves T cell and natural killer (NK) cell-mediated immunity , and also prevents the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, like TNF-alpha or IL-6, by monocytes.

Special Precautions

1. Do not take other medications that may cause drowsiness and also avoid alcohol.
2. For both men and women: Use contraceptives, and do not conceive a child (get pregnant) while taking pomalidomide. Severe, life-threatening birth defects may result.
3. For women of childbearing potential. You must use contraception 4 weeks before you can begin pomalidomide.
4. Discuss with your doctor when you may safely become pregnant or conceive a child after therapy.
5. Do not donate sperm while taking pomalidomide, during any breaks (interruptions) in your treatment, and for 4 weeks after stopping.

How to Use

Take orally with food and water, as directed by your physician.

How to Store

Keep in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and moisture.

Safety Concerns

• Alcohol: Avoid during treatment.
• Breastfeeding: Not recommended.
• Pregnancy: Contraindicated.
• Liver/Kidney: Use with caution.
