Uses of Bpace-5 Cap
Ramipril is an ACE inhibitor, which means it works by blocking a substance in the body that causes blood vessels to tighten. This makes it easier for the heart to pump blood, which can help to lower blood pressure and improve heart function.
Ramipril is used to treat:
- High blood pressure (hypertension)
- Heart failure
- After a heart attack
- Diabetic kidney disease
- To prevent strokes in people who are at high risk
Ramipril is available as a tablet, capsule, or liquid. It is usually taken once a day, but your doctor may prescribe a different dosage depending on your individual needs.
Side Effects of Bpace-5 Cap
Ramipril is generally well-tolerated, but it can cause some side effects. The most common side effects of ramipril include:
- Dry cough
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Diarrhoea
- Vomiting
- Rash
- Blurred vision
Less common side effects of ramipril can include:
- Fatigue
- Muscle cramps
- Low blood pressure
- Kidney problems
- Liver problems
- Allergic reactions
If you experience any of these side effects, talk to your doctor. They may be able to adjust your dosage or prescribe a different medication.
Drug Interactions
May enhance hypotensive effect w/ diuretics and other antihypertensives. May increase risk of renal function deterioration w/ NSAIDs. May increase serum levels and toxicity of lithum. May increase hyperkalaemic effect w/ K-sparing diuretics and supplements. Potentially Fatal: Concomitant use w/ aliskiren aliskiren may increase the risk of hyperkalaemia, hypotension and nephrotoxicity in patients w/ diabetes or renal impairment
Contraindications
Ramipril is contraindicated in the following conditions:
- Pregnancy: Ramipril can cause serious harm to an unborn baby if taken during pregnancy. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, talk to your doctor about other treatment options.
- Angioedema: Ramipril can cause angioedema, a rare but serious allergic reaction that can cause swelling of the face, lips, tongue, throat, and other parts of the body. If you have had angioedema in the past, you should not take ramipril.
- Aliskiren: Ramipril should not be taken with aliskiren, a medication used to treat high blood pressure. Taking these two medications together can increase the risk of serious side effects, such as low blood pressure and kidney problems.
- Other ACE inhibitors: If you are allergic to ramipril, you should also avoid other ACE inhibitors, such as lisinopril, enalapril, and captopril.
If you have any of these conditions, talk to your doctor before taking ramipril. They may be able to prescribe a different medication that is safe for you.
Mechanism of Action
Ramipril is an ACE inhibitor, which means it works by blocking the action of an enzyme called angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE).
The mechanism of action of ramipril is as follows:
- ACE converts angiotensin I to angiotensin II.
- Angiotensin II is a potent vasoconstrictor that narrows blood vessels and raises blood pressure.
- Ramipril blocks ACE, preventing the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II.
- This results in the relaxation of blood vessels and a decrease in blood pressure.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ bilateral renal artery stenosis or a single kidney w/ unilateral renal artery stenosis; at risk for hypotension (e.g. patients w/ volume or salt depletion); aortic or mitral valve stenosis. Renal and hepatic impairment. Patient Counselling Inform patients to refrain from activities involving mental alertness and physical coordination after drug intake. Monitoring Parameters Correct volume and/or salt depletion prior to treatment. Monitor BP, serum creatinine and K levels. Monitor renal function during the 1st few wk of treatment and periodically thereafter.
