Uses of Isotroin 5 mg Capsule 10s

Isotretinoin belongs to the drug class retinoids. This medication is used to treat severe cystic acne ( nodular acne).
Isotretinoin is preferred medicine for cystic acne if it has not responded to medications like clindamycin, tetracycline or minocycline.

Side Effects of Isotroin 5 mg Capsule 10s

Some of the common side effects of Isotretinoin include :
dryness of skin with scaling, changes in skin color, erythema, cheilitis, pruritus, epistaxis,
dry eyes, visual disturbances and sometimes conjunctivitis,
dry sore mouth
Hair thinning, photosensitivity, changes in skin pigmentation,
Headache and drowsiness
mood changes,depression and anxiety.

Drug Interactions

Isotretinoin has tendency to interact with other medications like vitamin A or progesterone . It has been reported to cause increasing bone loss if taken along with phenytoin.

Contraindications

Contraindicated in Pregnancy and lactation.

Mechanism of Action

Isotretinoin is a synthetic retinoid .Isotretinoin works by reducing sebaceous gland size and thereby decreasing sebum production. It also regulates cell proliferation and differentiation.

Special Precautions

Discontinue if hearing impairment, abdominal pain, rectal bleeding, severe diarrhoea or adverse ocular effects occur. Patient should not donate blood during therapy and for at least 1 mth following drug discontinuation.

How to Use

Take orally with food and water, as directed by your physician.

How to Store

Keep in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and moisture.

• Alcohol: Avoid during treatment.
• Breastfeeding: Not recommended.
