Uses of Ivabid 5 mg Tablet 10s

Ivabradine is used in the treatment of :

  1. heart failure
  2. angina 
  3. Tachycardia 

Side Effects of Ivabid 5 mg Tablet 10s

Some of the common side effects of Ivabradine includes :

  1. Slow heart rate
  2. Blurred vision
  3. Dizzines and headache
  4. ventricular extrasystoles
  5. sensations of enhanced brightness (medically termed as Luminous phenomena)

Drug Interactions

Following medicines can interact with the ivabradine and may lower its effect on the body :

  1.  azole antifungals (such as itraconazole, ketoconazole),
  2. macrolide antibiotics (such as clarithromycin, telithromycin), diltiazem,
  3. HIV protease inhibitors (such as nelfinavir, ritonavir),
  4. nefazodone, rifamycins (such as rifabutin, rifampin),
  5. verapamil and diltiazem
  6. drugs used to treat seizures (such as carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin)

Contraindications

Ivabradine should not be used along with following medicines :

  • potent inhibitors of CYP3A4, for example, azole antifungals (such as ketoconazole), macrolide antibiotics, nefazodone and the antiretroviral drugs nelfinavir and ritonavir.
  • Verapamil or diltiazem

Mechanism of Action

Ivabradine has a unique property to reduce the activities of cardiac pacemakers and by doing so it slows down the heart rate . And thereby Ivabradine gives the heart more time to pump the blood to cardiac muscles . It brings down the workload on heart and subsequently improves heart efficiency and helps in treating chest pain due to angina and congestive heart failure.

Special Precautions

  1. You should inform the doctor or pharmacist if you have previous history of allergic reactions to Ivabradine.
  2. This medicine has the side effects of dizziness and blurred vision so avoid using Ivabradine medicine with alcohol which may potentiate side effects . Do not drive, use heavy machinery, or do anything that needs alertness or clear vision until you can do it safely.
  3. Take extra caution while driving at night because sudden change in light brightness can lead to vision problems (due to luminous phenomena)

How to Use

Take orally with food and water, as directed by your physician.

How to Store

Keep in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and moisture.

Safety Concerns

  • Alcohol: Avoid during treatment.
  • Breastfeeding: Not recommended.
  • Pregnancy: Contraindicated.
  • Liver/Kidney: Use with caution.
