Uses of Rockbon 0.25 mcg Sachet 10gm

Calcitriol is a synthetic form of vitamin D3 that is used to treat a variety of conditions that are caused by low levels of calcium in the blood.

Here are some of the uses of calcitriol:

  • Hypocalcemia: Calcitriol can be used to treat hypocalcemia, which is a condition in which the blood calcium level is too low. Hypocalcemia can be caused by a variety of factors, including vitamin D deficiency, kidney disease, and certain medications.
  • Hypoparathyroidism: Calcitriol can be used to treat hypoparathyroidism, a condition in which the parathyroid glands do not produce enough PTH. PTH helps to regulate calcium and phosphate levels in the blood.
  • Rickets: Calcitriol can be used to treat rickets, a condition in which the bones do not grow and develop properly. Rickets is caused by a deficiency of vitamin D.
  • Osteomalacia: Calcitriol can be used to treat osteomalacia, a condition in which the bones become soft and weak. Osteomalacia is caused by a deficiency of vitamin D.
  • Chronic kidney disease: Calcitriol can be used to treat chronic kidney disease (CKD), a condition that damages the kidneys and can lead to a number of health problems, including high blood pressure, anemia, and bone disease. Calcitriol helps to regulate calcium and phosphate levels in the blood, which can help to prevent complications of CKD.

Side Effects of Rockbon 0.25 mcg Sachet 10gm

Here are some of the side effects of calcitriol:

  1. High calcium levels: Calcitriol can cause the calcium level in the blood to become too high. This can lead to symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, constipation, muscle weakness, and bone pain.
  2. Hypercalciuria: Calcitriol can also cause the calcium level in the urine to become too high. This can lead to kidney stones.
  3. Headache: Calcitriol can cause headaches.
  4. Dry mouth: Calcitriol can cause dry mouth.
  5. Drowsiness: Calcitriol can cause drowsiness.
  6. Rash: Calcitriol can cause a rash.

Drug Interactions

  1. Calcitriol can interact with drugs that increase the risk of hypercalcemia, such as thiazide diuretics and lithium.
  2. Calcitriol can interact with drugs that decrease the absorption of calcium, such as cholestyramine and colestipol.
  3. Calcitriol can interact with drugs that increase the risk of kidney stones, such as thiazide diuretics and lithium.

Contraindications

  1. Hypercalcemia: Calcitriol should not be used in people with hypercalcemia, which is a condition in which the calcium level in the blood is too high.
  2. Hyperphosphatemia: Calcitriol should not be used in people with hyperphosphatemia, which is a condition in which the phosphate level in the blood is too high.
  3. Kidney disease: Calcitriol should be used with caution in people with kidney disease.
  4. Sarcoidosis: Calcitriol should be used with caution in people with sarcoidosis, a condition that causes the body to produce too much calcium.

Mechanism of Action

Here is how calcitriol works:

  1. Calcitriol binds to vitamin D receptors in the body.
  2. Vitamin D receptors are located in cells throughout the body, including the intestines, kidneys, and bones.
  3. When calcitriol binds to vitamin D receptors, it activates genes that help to regulate calcium and phosphate levels.
  4. Calcitriol helps the intestines to absorb more calcium from food.
  5. Calcitriol helps the kidneys to retain more calcium in the body.
  6. Calcitriol helps the bones to release more calcium into the blood.
