Uses of Trazumab 150mg Injection

Trastuzumab is an anti cancer medicine and is used in the treatment of following types of cancer

  • breast cancer,
  • oesophageal cancer and
  • stomach cancer.

Side Effects of Trazumab 150mg Injection

Chills, fever, headache, dizziness, back pain, arthralgia, increased cough, infection, insomnia, oedema, tachycardia, diarrhoea, paresthesia and rashes. Potentially Fatal: Severe hypersensitivity (anaphylaxis) and infusion reactions; pulmonary events e.g. acute respiratory distress syndrome; cardiotoxicity. Neutropenia (especially when given with chemotherapy).

Drug Interactions

Increased risk of severe cardiotoxicity with anthracyclines. Increased risk of leukopenia and anaemia in combination chemotherapy (e.g. paclitaxel). Paclitaxel may decrease the clearance of trastuzumab. Increased risk of bleeding with warfarin.

Contraindications

Lactation (start only 6 mth after last dose of drug). Do not admin by rapid IV or bolus inj.

Mechanism of Action

Trastuzumab, a monoclonal antibody, has action directed against a cell surface protein produced by human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2). It inhibits proliferation of tumour cells that overexpress HER2 e.g. in 1/3 of breast cancer. Distribution: Vd: 44 mL/kg; unlikely to cross intact blood brain barrier. Excretion: Half-life ranges from 5.8 to 28.5 days after admin of the recommended doses.

Special Precautions

Preexisting cardiac dysfunction and pulmonary disease (e.g. asthma, COPD), prior cardiotoxic therapy, extensive tumour involvement of lungs. Monitor cardiac function frequently and watch for signs of cardiotoxicity (ventricular dysfunction or CHF). Pregnancy, elderly.

Take orally with food and water, as directed by your physician.

Keep in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and moisture.

Safety Concerns

  • Alcohol: Avoid during treatment.
  • Breastfeeding: Not recommended.
  • Pregnancy: Contraindicated.
  • Liver/Kidney: Use with caution.
