Uses of Gazyva 1000mg Infusion

  1. Treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL): Obinutuzumab is used in combination with chlorambucil to treat patients with previously untreated CLL. It is also used in combination with bendamustine to treat patients with CLL who have relapsed after previous treatment.
  2. Treatment of follicular lymphoma (FL): Obinutuzumab is used in combination with bendamustine followed by obinutuzumab alone to treat patients with FL who have relapsed after, or are refractory to, a rituximab-containing regimen. It is also used in combination with chemotherapy followed by obinutuzumab alone in patients achieving at least a partial remission, for the treatment of adult patients with previously untreated stage II bulky, III or IV follicular lymphoma.

Side Effects of Gazyva 1000mg Infusion

Here is a more detailed list of the possible side effects of obinutuzumab:

    1. Infusion reactions: These are the most common side effects of obinutuzumab. They usually occur during or shortly after the infusion. Symptoms can include fever, chills, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and headache. These reactions are usually mild and go away on their own. However, in rare cases, they can be severe and require treatment.
    2. Infection: Obinutuzumab can weaken the immune system, making it more likely that you will get an infection. Infections can be serious, especially in people with a weakened immune system. If you have any signs of infection, such as fever, chills, cough, sore throat, or difficulty breathing, tell your doctor right away.
    3. Low white blood cell count: Obinutuzumab can cause a low white blood cell count. This can increase your risk of getting an infection. If you have a low white blood cell count, your doctor may recommend that you avoid contact with people who are sick or have infections. You may also need to have blood transfusions.
    4. Low platelet count: Obinutuzumab can cause a low platelet count. This can increase your risk of bleeding. If you have a low platelet count, your doctor may recommend that you avoid activities that could increase your risk of bleeding, such as contact sports or lifting heavy objects. You may also need to have platelet transfusions.
    5. Low red blood cell count: Obinutuzumab can cause a low red blood cell count. This can cause anemia, which can make you feel tired or weak. If you have a low red blood cell count, your doctor may recommend that you take iron supplements or have blood transfusions.
    6. Heart problems: Obinutuzumab can cause heart problems, such as heart failure or a heart attack. These problems are rare, but they can be serious. If you have any heart problems, talk to your doctor before taking obinutuzumab.
    7. Other side effects: Obinutuzumab can also cause other side effects, such as hair loss, rash, and fatigue. These side effects are usually mild and go away on their own. However, in rare cases, they can be serious. If you have any side effects that are bothersome or do not go away, talk to your doctor.

Drug Interactions

Obinutuzumab can interact with a number of other medications, including:

  1. Live vaccines: Obinutuzumab can weaken the immune system, making it more likely that you will get an infection. If you are taking obinutuzumab, you should not get any live vaccines.
  2. Immunosuppressants: Obinutuzumab can increase the effects of immunosuppressants. If you are taking obinutuzumab, you may need to take a lower dose of immunosuppressants.
  3. Blood pressure medications: Obinutuzumab can lower blood pressure. If you are taking obinutuzumab, you may need to monitor your blood pressure more closely.
  4. Antibiotics: Obinutuzumab can make it more difficult for antibiotics to work. If you are taking obinutuzumab, you may need to take a longer course of antibiotics.
  5. Other cancer medications: Obinutuzumab can interact with other cancer medications. If you are taking obinutuzumab, it is important to talk to your doctor about all of the medications you are taking

Mechanism of Action

Obinutuzumab is a monoclonal antibody that targets the CD20 antigen, which is expressed on the surface of B cells. B cells are a type of white blood cell that play a role in the immune system.

Obinutuzumab works by binding to CD20 on B cells and then triggering the body's immune system to attack and destroy the B cells. This can help to shrink tumors and slow or stop the growth of cancer cells.

Obinutuzumab is a type of targeted therapy, which means it is designed to target specific molecules on cancer cells. Targeted therapies are often more effective and have fewer side effects than traditional chemotherapy drugs.
